88 Fortunes Slot was released by Bally Technologies, now SG Gaming, in July 2016. The game is based upon a physical slot machine and became an online slot when released in 2016. Bally Technologies started over eighty five years ago with the launch of a wooden pinball game. In 2014 Scientific Gaming acquired them for a sum of R1.5billion – also try Twin Spin slots. Although the game has been around for a number of years it hasn’t been as well known in the UK and US market due to the fact it was mainly available in the Chinese gambling capital, Macau.
The game is a five reel, three row game and uses the method of the 243 ways to win. Each spin can be from as little as 88p to £88 taking from the name of the game, eight is the dominant number through out the whole game, and the game is available across all devices. The Return to Player percentage is a healthy 96% and the game has the adrenaline rush of being a progressive slot too.
88 Fortunes is based on a Chinese theme, something that Bally Technologies is renowned for. The prominent colour is red, a typically Chinese colour and the game has many Chinese style symbols through out. The Asian feel to the game has a lot of competition as there are many games with this theme so 88 Fortunes needs something to make it stand out from the crowd. So what exactly is it?
To begin the player needs to activate between one and five gold symbols, which then in turn will set the stake to different credits. The credits are then stacked at eight, eighteen, thirty eight, sixty eight, and eighty eight. Again the dominant number eight.
The best bit of the game is the multiple jackpot options; there are four in total, Mini, Minor Major and Grand. As a gold symbol is activated so is the next jackpot level. The game offers the standard and the golden options of symbols such as a chalice, a turtle, a boat, a coin and a bird, the latter being a lucky symbol in China along with a Chinese dollar and a pile of Chinese bars. The lower value symbols are the playing cards, nine, ten, Jack, Queen, King and the Ace. The Wild symbol is the Wild Fu Bat which again is a symbol of prosperity and luck. Like all Wilds Fu Bat can override any symbol except, of course, the scatter symbol which in this case is gong symbol. Landing three, four or five gongs can activate the free spins feature, initially 88 Fortunes awards ten free spins and then more can be collected once the game is being played. When Fu Bat, the Wild, appears the player will be taken to a screen with twelve Chinese coins, clicking on the coins until three matching symbols are found will lead the player to on of the jackpots.
Overall the game is a decent game to play if you like the Chinese theme. The four progressive jackpots is what makes the game more interesting but be aware that the mobile version could be a little better.
